Lynn’s Top 10 Ecchi Anime – 2 Year Edition!

As we approach the two-year mark at Ecchi Hunter, it seemed like a great time to look back and reminisce. These are the top ten ecchi anime that I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing for EcchiHunter.com.

Has it really been two years?

At first, I was sure this would be easy. How many shows could I have watched and reviewed in two years? Twenty-three apparently and that’s just the shows. There have been some with multiple seasons. For this list, I’m going to consider the show in its entirety. For example, had I only watched season one of High School DxD, I would probably have rated it much higher.

High School DxD Uncensored Episode 6 Rias

On top of that, there have been some shows that Yomu reviewed but I still watched and very much enjoyed. Quick shout out to Keijo!!!!!!!!, Magical Sempai, No Game No Life, HenSuki, and OreSuki who could not be considered.

#10. My Wife is the Student Council President!

This is one of the most recent series I’ve covered and it really surprised me. It would have been higher had the episodes been full length, but then it’s also nice to have a short burst of ecchi. This series really delivers on the ecchi side of things and creates lots of outrageous scenarios for poor Hiyato.

#9. Why the hell are you here, Teacher!?

I really enjoyed this series, which was another one with short episodes. It was also the first series I reviewed on Ecchi Hunter so it has a special place in my heart. It’s another fun series with awkward situations. The censorship was a big problem with this series. If only I had a copy of the uncensored version!

#8. Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid

This series shouldn’t make any sense whatsoever, and yet, it’s a brilliant series with an actual story in the middle. In fact, the story is an actual selling point! On top of that, Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid delivers ecchi content like no other. It’s just spectacular.

#7. Gleipnir

I absolutely loved this series and am surprised to see it only make it to number seven. It doesn’t have as much ecchi, but the story is incredible, not to mention the production values which elevated this series to amazing heights. It is incomplete, however, so if we get another season, it could easily climb higher!

#6. High School DxD

If I was just to consider season one, this would be one of my favourites. However, upon rewatching seasons two to four, I can’t help but feel like the quality has dropped slowly as the seasons progressed. What started out as a dark and mysterious series has turned into another high school battle series but with boobs. I want to love this series!

#5. Tsugumomo

Tsugumomo is fantastic and with two seasons so far it’s well worth diving into. Hopefully, we’ll get a third season, especially after how it left things at the end of season two. It manages to mix lighthearted moments with truly dark and twisted ideas. It really is the complete package.

#4. How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?

I had no idea I would love this show this much. There was a story although it had lots of episode based jokes which kept it feeling quite fresh, which is impressive considering it’s all exercise based. It was hilarious as well and I remember watching these episodes as soon as they aired. It was one of the highlights of my week.

#3. How Not to Summon a Demon Lord

I haven’t watched the second season yet, but it’s very high on my things to do so I will get to it soon enough. That said, this first season is absolutely perfect. It’s just so much fun and has a great cast of characters. Seriously, I hope they keep making these. Also, Shera is incredible.

#2. Cat Planet Cuties

I think this is one of my favourite series in any genre, ecchi or not. It’s hilarious, sexy, engaging, and just an absolute riot. It adds science fiction like no other series, often pulling in ideas from the greats. Plus you have one of my favourite groups of girls. This is just a lot of fun!

#1. Highschool of the Dead

This isn’t a surprise to me or anyone that knows me. Highschool of the Dead is my number one anime. It pulled me back into anime after I’d been drifting in the wilderness for a while. I love this story and the characters and it saddens me that we’ll never truly know how it was meant to end. And as a huge zombie fan, this is my favourite zombie story in any medium. It’s far cleverer than people give it credit. Love it!

So, there you have it. We’ve been running Ecchi Hunter for almost two years now and have had a lot of fun watching and discussing ecchi anime. These top ten lists give us a chance to revisit the shows we loved without rewatching them all, which would take a lot of time and stop us from getting to other shows. I’m looking forward to seeing what the next year brings. Hopefully, there will be some that try to force their way onto this list.
