Rudeus was reborn into a new world after dying at the hands of Truck-kun. This is his chance to make something of his life, but only if he can vanquish the demons from his past. What adventures await him?
In his past life, Rudeus had become a shut-in, afraid to venture outside of his home due to relentless bullying, he found safety in anime and gaming. On the one occasion he was forced outside, he made a heroic decision and paid the ultimate price for it.
His new life, however, is in a world of sword and sorcery. His parents were adventurers and with the knowledge he retained from his previous life, he can follow them on the path to glory. That is if he can build up the courage to go outside the walls of his garden. A mage is brought in to tutor Rudeus and helps him out of his shell. It’s the first step in his adventure and things are about to get crazy!
I loved this series. It was a great start to what I hope will be a long redemption arc. Rudeus has come to this world with a lot of baggage. It leads him to make bad decisions and do things that are no becoming of a hero. However, he is working to make himself better. He realises that he has a chance at a new life and doesn’t want to waste it like he did the last one. On top of that, the fantasy elements are excellent and really bring this world to life.
Rudeus is the main character who was Isekaied to this new world. He arrived as a baby with his memories intact and has taken full advantage of that, excelling at learning new skills and languages. He has a long way to come before he can truly be happy with his new life and occasionally makes some terrible decisions. He is learning though!
Eris is Rudeus’ distant cousin who he has been hired to teach. She’s a handful and isn’t afraid to fight her way out of anything. After a lesson gone horribly wrong, she accepts Rudeus as her teacher and even begins to like him. Don’t mess with her though!
Ghislaine is Eris’ bodyguard and holds the title of Sword King. She used to be in a party with Rudeus’ parents, Paul and Zenith, which is how Rudeus got the job teaching Eris. She’s simply incredible!
Ruijerd finds Rudeus and Eris in the Demon Land and agrees to help them get back home. He is a feared warrior and a Supard. He’s another one that should not be taken lightly.
Roxy was Rudeus’ tutor and now offers him advice as and when he asks for it. He will always be like a naughty little brother to her, which is why she is trying to find him after the incident which sent him and Eris to the Demon Land.
There’s not a lot of fan-service in this one, which is fine. It does have some great characters in Ghislaine and Roxy to keep everyone entertained. The most you’ll get is the occasional panty shot as Rudeus is quite the little pervert and we see a lot of it from his point of view.
Story Rating: Excellent
The story is absolutely where this series shines. It’s fascinating watching Rudeus navigate this new life and try to make himself a better person. It’s funny when he screws up and gets immediate retribution, but that’s part of the journey. The fantasy elements of this story are incredible and I only hope the second season is as good.
Ecchi Rating: Cool
So, there’s not that much ecchi at all. In fact, I’d struggle to call this an ecchi series, but someone did and I reviewed it so I have no qualms. If you’re looking for ecchi then, you can skip this one. However, you would be missing a great series if you did.
I would highly recommend this series, but it does have some questionable decisions in that I can see putting people off. If you can accept that as a flaw in Rudeus’ character and move on then I think you’ll really enjoy it. If you like fantasy series then this is a must.
